Fruit Candy & TV Gone Wrong

My fruit candy didn't turn out right. *pOut* My sister saw this lady making frosted fruit candy with orange peel and we thought it'd be fun to do that. So I juiced the limes (closest thing we have in our pathetic li'l kitchen to a decent orange), made lime-ade (which is so sour it makes your eyes twitch real bad, hehee), cut those lime peels into strips, boil them in sugar water and all the works whilst May and my sister watchied Au Pair on TV. Heh well they did come by every once in a while (commercial breaks?) to see hows things are going. I only managed to wrap things up around 2pm with my sister. Rolled them in sugar and left them out to dry... And it was still wet this morning when I woke up. Grr... Bubblez no like when recipe fails. =/ My Journalism professor shared something really personal with us today. We were talking about TV and how much the contents really mirror real life (Did you know that the average woman on TV is 5'10 and 120 pounds, but the average American woman is only 5'4 and 142 pounds? ...), and then she told us that her daughter Kimmy died at the age of 34 for alcoholism and bulimia. I was shocked for a moment there. She was so composed when she told us the story; how Kimmy had always been a li'l pudgy, how kids at school used to call her Bucky coz of her buck tooth, how she turned into a swan in high school, and how her husband found empty vodka bottles inside her wedding gown garment bag, among other secret hiding places in the house. Her voice was calm and gentle the whole time, and yet the bitter undertone of anger towards the TV media was unmistakeable. Her daughter, she said, was one of the victims of media TV, who bombards us with images of people who looked so perfect and yet so unreal. She revealed that in photoshoots or commercials, i.e when you see a lady with her arm around her man and a perfume on her other hand, there're actually more than just two models involved. They would be using a hand model to grasp the perfume bottle, the gorgeous body could belong to another model while they used the model with a pretty face. Yep, airbrushing, switching bodies and faces... and it's not fraud or anything like that. You can't sue them for false advertising or anything coz ...well, they never promised to NOT do that. Figures. You guys remember Pretty Woman with Richard Gere and Julia Roberts in it? In that movie poster, it was Julia Robert's body her face was perched on. Uh-huh. they used another model with a 'better' body. Even celebrities get these crap. And they were supposed to be perfect enough as it is. Y'know, one of the most frequently-airbrushed celebrity in the business has gotta be J. my-butt-crack-is-showing Lo. I mean, you always hear about that, especially the Gigli poster (not that it did any good for the boxoffice sales but still). Hehee, but she does have a pretty face, that I agree. Anyways, my professor tried to show us some of her daughter's pictures and the website she made for her but once again the computers were working against nice, liberal arts people so she gave us this website instead. http://www.crimevictims.net/kimmy Check it out yeah?
