Jeans

Jeans are just like people. Nobody likes a pair of jeans that are so tight they make spandex look like pj pants, or make you look so utterly ridiculous that you can feel your self-esteem leaking out down the drain. Just like nobody likes a person who makes you feel like an upside-down Pamela Anderson, or someone who makes you feel like curling up into a timid little ball and disappear. But everybody can use a reliable pair of jeans that one would automatically reach for on the first day of class (first impression ok), or a first date, whatever. Something that doesn't reveal unsightly 'cracks' at the most crucial of times, something that is lengthy enough to cover your bright orange socks but still able to show off your snazzy sneakers. Basically, something you can chill in. Some jeans are perfect. You know it the moment you see it on the racks, or when you try them on and stare at yourself in the fitting room mirror - loving how it feels and looks on you - aHh. Perfect in texture or color, that's swell; just like when you found someone with the same obscure hobby as you, or someone with the exact same peculiar sense of humor as you (love it when that happens, hehee). But when it's a perfect fit for you, one that makes you feel like twirling around and belting out the Sound of Music soundtrack, one that makes you think even Halle Berry didn't look as good in Gucci - now that's an incomparable feeling. It's just like finding someone that you completely click with, someone that makes you realize that life would be unimaginable without, even though you've only met for a couple of weeks. Then there are some jeans that might not be love at first sight, but definitely something you could fit into your wardrobe, something that suits your needs and feelings at the moment. Like if your thighs mysteriously expanded a couple of inches (it's a common, unexplained phenomena; don't worry), or if you needed something radical and unfamiliar to take your mind off things. Something not too ...you. Jeans like that seldom leave your closet, but you miss them when you can't find them anymore. And then there are those type of jeans that just make you wanna throw your hands up and cry foul. Jeans that initially look so appealing and can't-go-wrong, but then... Some people are like that too. Completely amicable in the beginning, fooling you into a 'false connection', and then... And then there are old jeans. Jeans that are still stacked inside your closet despite the lack of space, the same jeans that had accompanied you since the day you began to whine to your mom that rubber-banded waist jeans are not real jeans; jeans that had you covered throughout your teenage years. Comfy jeans. Memory jeans. Jeans that make you go 'aWww' when you clean out your closet, and never found the heart to give them away. Sometimes you feel like you owe it to your memories to wear them once in a while, but after fingering through the high-waists and straight boot-cut, you always managed to convince yourself that memories should be kept, not worn. 0=) I have some old jeans. Jeans that stuck with me through crushes and heartbreaks; that held me up and kept me warm when I feld cold and hopeless. Time has changed us, circumstances don't allow us to continue with our old, easy ways. But still we hold onto each other, bound by memories and heartfelt promises that we would always, always keep each other in our closets, awaiting the day we could put on those jeans on a daily basis again. And judging by how retro is hip nowadays (first the 60s, then the 70s... think Jackie Kennedy), it shouldn't be long before high-to-your-armpits waistbands and *gaSp* so-clingy-they-make-carrots-outta-your-legs cut goes a full turn and become fashionable again. *finGeRs cRosSed*
