Malaysian Fairy Tales - where's mine?

We've all heard stories like this before. The kacang putih seller that got so rich he has an international company, the wanton mee seller that drives a Mercedes E class, the fried kuay teow seller that got so popular he could afford to work only four hours a day, and still people grovel for his food coz it's charmed that good. Hardworking, normal people making it big, living the good life. That's our Malaysian Cinderella story. Then there's the other type of fairy-tale-like stories. The intelligent college graduate that got his dream job that relates DIRECTLY to his major/field of study, the Masters degree holder that earned so much on his first job that he could repay his parents for his tuition fees with his salary in SIX MONTHS, the PhD graduate that drives a Mercedes Benz at the age of 27, WITHOUT the help of a sugar daddy. Educated, well-rounded people makin it bi- Oh wait. I'm sorry. There isn't any stories like that. Why aR? Is it coz there're more college graduates in Malaysia nowadays than there is good food? No. Way. =P Some say it's coz young people nowadays are too arrogant, too full of themselves to actually stay humble and work from the bottom (I'm juz quoting 50 or so relatives here that gave me this lecture, so don't shoot me, young people =P). "They carry themselves around like full cups of water, as if they have enough knowledge and no more space left for additional learning from experienced people," Marmee lamented gently. "And they always have this attitude, like they know better than the old farts, juz coz they studied and read a few more books. Whatever valuable knowledge and wisdom from the 'old farts' are lost coz they're not willing to humble themselves," Mr Ba sighed in disappointment. "Somemore, they dowan to work for anything less than what they think they're worth. How can be so choosy at the beginning? Sooo much competition outside, you think you can earn 80,000 a year straightaway? You hafta earn people's respect from being humble, not from flaunting your so-called knowledge," Miss Yiyi spat out. You can tell humility is one of the recurring traits that most people agree that young people lack. I dunno. I see cases that affirm that, and others that don't. *shRug* But I do believe that when you're not comfortable where you're at, at least there's motivation to do better, to get yourself outta that tight spot. Which is probably how most of our favorite Cinderella stories broke out from their humble beginnings. Or maybe it's juz a case of supply and demand, y'know. How often do you need a chemical engineer for personal use, and compare that with how often you need and actually get a satisfying bowl of handmande pan mee. The pan mee seller has the chunkier part of the deal yo. Malaysians who are staying away from home, shush. =P
