Kaput, Says The Player

It's snowing!~ First snow of the season. *bEam* For some reason the sight of all the snow on the leaves and grass is making me happy. I'd probably change my mind when the coldness kicks in. =P

My darling mp3 player has finally failed me. After almost three years, it ran into some irreversible error mode and I had to reformat it if I wanna continue using it. And I do, of coz. IPods don't tempt me. =P Although the new one from Microsoft seems pretty wicked. The one they created to openly compete with Apple. The Zune.

'Dude, you're getting a Zune!' Lol; cracks me up.

Anyways, so I've lost all 31 folders in my player. All... I don't even know how many songs exactly, bout 4 GB of 'em. =( But I guess it's ok, can always try to download them again... might be better this way too; like house cleaning eh. Then I can find out how many of the songs I really liked and miss, and how many of them were victims of my hoarding habit. =P

Am bringing out all my CD collections, from an era where I still bought CDs, original and pirated. Heh.

Come to think of it, that era was only about a year ago. Lol.

There're a few song collections I immediately thought of the moment I realized my mp3 player kaput-ed.

- New Found Glory; especially their earlier works (can't get em anywhere anymore).
- Michelle Branch (for some reason).
- all the Hillsongs and PS stuff. - me Chinese songs collection.

Thank God I have hard copies of all of that. XD Well, except for the Chinese songs. But that's what the internet is for, no?

And attentive friends too, of coz. *lOoks meaningfully at --*

So, how's the job hunt?

"You're watching Whose Line Is It Anyway, where everything is made up and the points don't matter. That's right - the points are like journalism degrees in a career gallery."

Ok so Drew Carey din really say that (yet), but one of these days I'm gonna slip that into his suggestion box.

Coz it's true. I went to a huge career fair the other day on campus, and even tho I managed to talk to some recruiters and hand in my resumes, nothing feels too promising. Maybe coz of what most of them replied after recovering from the shock of having a journalism grad actually in a serious career fair for serious majors.

"Well, we're specifically looking for software engineers and supply chain management people right now... but you know what you can do? You can log onto the careers part of our website, and check if we have any openings in the mass communications department. Here, lemme give you the website..."

One recruiter at the Motorola booth was so surprised at my major he actually nudged his colleague to come over and talk to me together, coz he's "actually a software engineer, so I don't really know much about how the whole mass comm thing goes..." He wasn't being snide about it tho; he looked sincerely baffled.

By now most of you probably think that I'm juz attending the wrong career fair. But it was clearly stated that it was CommSciTech day, and the next day was Business Exchange day. And I went for both days.

I know the major I chose is not the most trodden path. I'm aware of it everytime I tell someone new about it.

"Journalism? Wow (in disbelief, mind you, not in awe)."

"It's so cool that you get to study what you really like. Not like me, stuck in engineering. Hard like hell."

"Ohh... so what do you plan to do after that? CNN? Hahaa."

Most people are nice about it. I mean, I'm not saying I feel discriminated by my choice in major or anything. And I'd always been happy about my decision. My classes had always been exciting and different, and I'd always felt at home in the school of mass communications, unlike my upper secondary years.

Up until now, that is. Now I wish I'd chosen something more 'useful'. Something more 'sek heong', like Yean Yik once mentioned.

Bleh.

I'm so frustrated, my eyes are turning red. Actually juz my left eye. Probably juz an infection.

Love On 96

I should start a cab service. Not juz any cab service. A specialized one, with only one route - between Lansing and Detroit.

It makes sense - there's no bus that goes between the two cities, no train, nothing. And yet most of us here use the Detroit airport or the Detroit Greyhound more often coz flying thru the Lansing airport costs more than your entire trip, AND there's no greyhound station in East Lansing.

It's juz a matter of finding a consumer need and fulfilling it, no?

I juz sent David off to the Greyhound yesterday morning. I don't mind, really - I'm not even complaining. I juz figured if I'm gonna do it more than five times in two short months, I might as well make some money off of it? Lol.

It'd be simple. Twenty bucks for gas, five bucks if you need me to carry your luggage (physical labor ain't cheap lately =P), and another five (optional) if you need me to fill the awkward silences with information on Lansing or Detroit. Or Malaysia, if you're the type who enjoys asking foreigners about their exotic countries.

In fact, this reminds me of something I read a few months ago. There's this pilot guy who started a private jet service, in Boston or something, in which he provides adventurous couples who want some alone time 40,000 feet above the ground while he cruises around in the air. He even decorated the back of his jet with velvet bedsheets and pillows, and of coz, a complimentary bottle of champagne. Oh, and a curtain between the cockpit and the back to assure complete seclusion.

Whatever works for some people, I guess.

I can do that too! Not sure how me sis'll react to me turning her Accord into a love shack, but... I'd even thought of the perfect name for my private service! Since most of the journey is on I-96 (the highway), I'll juz name it Love On 96. XD How can I nOt do it after coming up with such a brilliant name?

Or, I can just post an ad up in the carpool section on the campus website. But where's the fun in that?

Happy Birthday, Su!

Thank God for you! *huGgzz*

For listening to me rant and whine when things pissed me off. For understanding me even when I pretend to be fine. For loving me even though I forgot to bring enough cash for a three-week trip (heh). For not judging me after knowing my 'deepest, darkest secret' (lol). And much, much more...

For being such a blessing in my life. =) Thanks babe! Hope you have a brilliant b'day this year~! ;)

And juz to relive the waaay early birthday dinner we had for you at Molly's... hehee.

The pizza... tasted much, much better than it looked.

The salad, which Yean Yik complained should've came earlier, since it was supposed to be an appetizer, and that basically the waiter was dumb. XD Anyhow, it was yummy.

The... seafood pasta? White wine sauce and all. Umai!

Two of my favorite people. *bEam* Then it was off to...

The Canoe Club! For drinks, initially...

But ended up getting desserts instead. Hee. Creme Brulee~

And a chocolatey, almond-pie with raspberry... thing. Forgot the name. 0=)
