Flowery Gestures

Reached the office in the morning and found a plant/flower... thing in a glass filled with water on my desk. Asked everyone in my department (All two of them) if they knew who'd set it here, but nobody knew. I had my suspicions but I kept to myself...

It couldn't be Kazu coz the world will start bursting into flames the day he gets to work earlier than he absolutely has to.

Plus, he'd sooner put on some black tights and belt out a spanish love song than do something lame (but romantic, maybe - works for some ppl..??) like that.

I din dare to touch it for fear of Anthrax (or the latest biohazardous threat - who can keep up with all the WMD these days), not even when it was blocking my mouse movements. I even moved my entire PC a couple of inches over so I wouldn't have any contact with it.

The culprit called during breaktime. Do you know what it is? It's a jasmine flower. I cut it from my own plant at home. Brought it all the way from my hometown. It's supposed to give off a sweet smell. Can you smell it? I put some sugar into the water so it should last for a long time (unfortunately... -__-;)

The conversation was that one-sided. All I said was thanks (I guess..?), and no, I can't really smell anything, sorry.

It's not the first time he's done something like that. It could be souvenirs from business trips, cookies, cakes... and once, a paper boat. Don't ask me why; I'm juz as baffled as you are. And let's not even talk about the e-mails.

Kazu finds all this amusing. The guy's from his department, and he's usually this over-talkative, overwhelming person with the subtlety of a fighting bull. "That loud-mouth ojiisan (means uncle in jap) likes you!!~ Ha ha ha!" I guess the drastic change in personality is funny in an ironic kinda way, but he was enjoying it a lil too much, IMHO.

He din laugh tho, when I told him about the time I had to hitch a ride home from the flower guy (it was either awkward one-sided conversation or potentially fatal situation with strange taxi driver) and almost forced to have dinner together coz my car was in the shop for repairs and he couldn't leave work at 5.30 like the rest of us lazy local staff. =P

That night, he handed me his car keys and let me use his car until mine was fixed.

I'm gonna tell him bout the flower today, of coz. Maybe this time he'll hand me the keys to a brand-new car. Ha ha ha!
